Windstar Cruises Christens New Star Pride

Days after introducing its new logo (seen below), Windstar Cruises christened the first of three new power yachts set to join its fleet – the Star Pride. The ceremony took place in Barcelona, Spain with Mrs. Nancy Anschutz, wife of Mr. Philip Anschutz, owner of Xanterra Parks & Resorts, Windstar’s parent company, acting as the ship’s godmother.

Star Pride is the first of the three small luxury cruise ships added to the Windstar yacht fleet, and it leads the way as Windstar enters a new era of small ship cruising,” said Hans Birkholz, chief executive officer of Windstar Cruises. “We are honored to have Mrs. Anschutz serve in the prestigious role of Godmother. It’s fitting to have her christen Windstar’s first yacht in 16 years as the Anschutz family and Xanterra Parks & Resorts, have been an integral part of Windstar’s transformation the last few years.”

The former Seabourn Cruise Line vessel underwent a major 3-week transformation during which time all the public spaces, dining venues and suites were rebranded according to Windstar Cruises’ casual philosophy. Star Pride also introduces Windstar’s new Destination Suites, each themed to one of the line’s cruising regions.

The new yacht will sail in the Mediterranean this summer after its inaugural cruise, and in the fall, she will set out for Asia and Arabia. Following the launch of the Star Pride will come the introduction of its identical sister ships, Star Breeze and Star Legend in May 2015.
