The New Regal Princess Announced with Her Keel Laying

Just yesterday, Princess Cruises announced the name for its upcoming sister ship to the Royal Princess. Launching in Spring of 2014 will be the new Regal Princess, another historic name for the cruise line.

As president and CEO of Princess Cruises, Alan Buckelew, said, “just as Royal Princess was named after one of our iconic early vessels, Regal Princess also takes a name from our past that we think is well suited for this spectacular ship. Today’s keel laying is an exciting event as it marks a key milestone in our newbuilding program.”

This news was released as the ship’s keel was laid down at the Italian Fincantieri shipyard – most likely in the same drydock space that the nearly completed 2013 Royal Princess was just floated out from only days ago. With the first 500-ton building block in place, the two-million man-hour construction project is now in full swing.

Come 2014, the Regal Princess will feature the same striking ship additions as the Royal Princess including the SeaWalk cantilevered 28 feet over the ocean from one of the ship’s top-most decks as well as the unique Princess Live! television studio at sea.
