The Final Countdown to Norwegian Breakaway Has Begun
Norwegian Cruise Line is counting down the final 100 days before Norwegian Breakaway‘s launch by posting a unique ship fact to get excited about each day on its Facebook page. And there’s no better way to celebrate at Popular Cruising than by sharing the latest photos of the vessel straight from the shipyard and to announce that we have been graciously invited to an inaugural sailing to report on all of Breakaway‘s highly anticipated features. You can also view the ship’s earlier construction progress right here.
The vibrant pop-art stylings of Peter Max are well on their way to being applied to the hull, and as you can see in these images, it’s quite the paint-by-numbers process to make it all look as it should according to the artist’s specifications. After leaving her cradle of the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany, she will first set sail for The Netherlands where the European inaugural festivities begin on April 26th.
Then she will set sail on her April 30th maiden transatlantic crossing – a special sailing that you yourself can book and enjoy – to arrive at her homeport of New York City for her May 8th christening. Then after two additional preview sailings – one of which will host New York mothers affected by Hurricane Sandy on Mother’s Day weekend – her year-round cruises to the Bahamas or the Caribbean will officially commence.
What’s more, Kevin Sheehan – CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line – will be onboard the first May 12th sailing, and two of The Rockettes – the ship’s collective godmothers – will be onboard the very first six sailings as well as the first sailing of each month thereafter, taking part in special guest events.
