It seems like just yesterday that Royal Caribbean International “wowed” us, utilizing the line’s catchphrase, with the announcement of the Quantum of the Seas and third Oasis-class ship. The first of three currently scheduled Quantum-class vessels is now well under way. Her first exciting new features have been announced, and her keel has been laid at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany. Plus, Oasis 3 – the temporary designation for the future sister ship to the Oasis of the Seas and the Allure of the Seas – has also just begun her initial construction.
Quantum of the Seas
A cool new video has been released showcasing how robotics will be employed to enhance the staging of shows housed in the new Two70° wraparound lounge at the stern of the ship (rendered above). Display panels attached to mechanized arms will lower from the ceiling to dance in the background and reveal never-before-seen video wall compositions.
What’s more, a team of celebrity consultants has been brought onboard to help oversee and guide the design, amenity and activity details. Called the Quantum Experience Advisors, these celebrities come from backgrounds such as design, sports & fitness and entertainment. The first announced consultant is Genevieve Gorder, a famed interior designer and television personality known from HGTV, who has been working on the Quantum of the Seas since May of 2013.
“Our teams at Royal Caribbean are always leading the charge in terms of delivering innovative and industry-leading ships and programming and now, by teaming up with some of the brightest and most talented professionals in their respective fields, we are sure to make the Quantum-class some of the most amazing ships to ever set sail,” said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, Executive Vice President, Operations, Royal Caribbean International. “Guest experience is our number one priority and our Quantum Experience Advisors are bringing fresh insights, opinions and perspectives to help us deliver the kinds of WOW moments that can only be found on Royal Caribbean.”
Oasis 3
The initial steel cutting of the third Oasis-class ship was celebrated yesterday at the STX France shipyard in Saint-Nazaire. While little is known about the new cruise ship’s exact features, it is understood that the ship will be nearly 2,500 tons larger than the Oasis of the Seas and the Allure of the Seas with a total approximate size of 227,700 gross tons. “Our Oasis-class ships have led the charge in delivering the WOW for which Royal Caribbean is known,” said Royal Caribbean International President and CEO, Adam Goldstein. “We are delighted to get the building process underway and look forward to the next chapter of this amazing class of ships.”
