Norwegian Cruise Line recently relaunched the Norwegian Star with a number of dining and entertainment firsts and enhancements ahead of the cruise ship’s northern European sailing season. Two complimentary restaurants, an upgraded Ginza Asian dining room, and the cruise line’s first Five o’Clock Somewhere Bar were included as part of Norwegian’s NEXT Program, enhancing the fleet.
“Our guests can dine like nowhere else at sea with Norwegian’s Freestyle Dining and these exciting new venues on Norwegian Star make it even easier, more exciting and more fun for guests to enjoy the freedom and flexibility that only a Norwegian cruise can offer,” said Andy Stuart, president and chief operating officer of Norwegian Cruise Line.
The Five o’Clock Somewhere Bar is the line’s first venue in partnership with Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville®. The parrothead and escapist oasis will pour signature margaritas and “boat drinks” like the “Who’s to Blame® Margarita” and ice cold LandShark Lagers while nightly live music entertains.
With its previous $15 cover charge removed, the Norwegian Star‘s Asian fusion dining venue, Ginza, is now complimentary to its guests including courses like traditional Chinese noodles from a dedicated Noodle Bar, wok-fried specialties, and dim sum favorites. Premium items such as Japanese Hot Rock Ishiyaki will be available for a nominal fee as well as sushi and sashimi pieces like the Sashimi Hamachi Poblano, Ten Shades of Grey Roll at the sushi bar or kinetic sushi belt, a first onboard a cruise ship.
Additionally for dining, O’Sheehan’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill, the line’s 24-hour complimentary eatery has been added, serving pub fare. Also, Moderno Churrascaria Brazilian steakhouse was repositioned to a more intimate location on Deck 13 with the new addition of Sugarcane Mojito Bar adjacent to the restaurant.
What’s more, upgrades were made to the Casino and Photo Gallery, plus new carpets and flooring in guest areas, window replacements, and galley and pool deck updates. First introduced on Norwegian Breakaway, the line’s interactive digital signage has also been added with the ability for passengers to order specialty items, get directions and reserve dining and shore excursions.
Technical improvements were made as well including adding emission-reducing, energy-saving Green Tech Marine Scrubbers and shore power connections; plus upgrades to lifeboat and tender boat release systems, thrusters and stabilizer maintenance, and ballast and bilge piping replacement.
Norwegian Star sets sail this summer from Copenhagen, Denmark with 7- to 14-day sailings to the Baltic Capitals and Norwegian fjords. Port highlights include Berlin, Germany; Tallinn, Estonia; St. Petersburg, Russia; Helsinki, Finland; and Stockholm, Sweden.
