The hull art for both the Norwegian Breakaway and the Norwegian Getaway has been unveiled by Norwegian Cruise Line, and with it comes the anticipation for an at-sea pop art parade. Following the news that Peter Max will be the artist responsible for the Breakaway‘s bow design, David “LEBO” Le Batard has been assigned the Getaway as his latest canvas.

Both designs are symbolically reflective of the ship’s year-round homeports of New York and Miami respectively and are marked with bright colors that will surely stand out as they set sail. Contrasting the architectural and cosmic geometry of Norwegian Breakaway‘s graphics (seen above), the Norwegian Getaway (seen below) will exhibit more sinuous strokes in keeping with her tropical mermaid imagery.

LEBO says, “Having grown up in South Florida, the ocean has been an immense presence in my life and has been infused into my work as an artist. When I was asked to design the artwork for Norwegian Getaway, I saw an opportunity to create a prominent image, one that would surely help define the Miami seascape and illustrate the world-class experience that Norwegian Cruise Line has come to stand for. It is truly an honor to have been offered this canvas, as it gives the world an opportunity to see my work in a way few artists ever get to see in their entire lives.”
The Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway are both currently under construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany with the Breakaway nearly complete and the Getaway just beginning her assembly. The Norwegian Breakaway will enter service in May of 2013 with the Norwegian Getaway scheduled to follow in the winter of 2014.
