Norwegian Cruise Line Future: Getaway, Escape and Bliss

Norwegian Cruise Line has already made quite a splash with the new Norwegian Breakaway, and yet the line’s future fleet continues to impress with the Norwegian Getaway nearly complete at the shipyard (as seen above) and the planned Breakaway Plus-class ships receiving their names – Norwegian Escape and Norwegian Bliss.

Norwegian Getaway

The Norwegian Getaway will sail year-round from Miami, Florida, and more Floridian ship details have been announced accordingly. First, the godmothers of the new cruise ship will be the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders, and they will collectively christen the vessel on February 7, 2014. Plus, Norwegian Cruise Line will now be the official cruise line of the Miami football team.

Other tastes of Miami onboard will be had at the Tropicana Room, a complimentary main dining room inspired by Miami Beach in the 1940s and 1950s with rich woods, dark purple and silver fabrics and mirrored columns. Cuisine will have a Latin flair and include choices like ceviche, churrasco steak and chicken with yellow rice. Similarly, the Flamingo Bar & Grill will serve pulled pork, steak chimichurri, fried yucca, spinach empanadas and guava turnovers.

Two additional bars will continue the Floridian theme. The Sugarcane Mojito Bar features a rustic island décor and pours mojitos and rum-based cocktails inside and out along the ship’s Waterfront boardwalk. Also along the Waterfront and indoors is the Sunset Bar, inspired by Ernest Hemingway’s Key West with a mounted marlin behind the bar and leather furniture and animal prints throughout. Tropical drinks like daiquiris will be served.

Additionally, the Waterfront’s mural will feature the flora, fauna and architecture of Key West and the Southernmost point as well as the Miami skyline, and LEBO’s artwork will don the ship’s hull. The Norwegian Getaway will begin sailing from her homeport of Miami, Florida in February 2014.

Norwegian Escape and Norwegian Bliss

Looking even further out into the future, the two previously announced Breakaway-plus class ships, even larger variants of the Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway, now have been assigned names. Thanks to Norwegian Cruise Line’s ship naming contest, we now know that these two 163,000-gross-ton vessels will be named the Norwegian Escape and the Norwegian Bliss and will be launched in the fall of 2015 and the spring of 2017.
