Norwegian Cruise Line Celebrates Norwegian Escape Keel Laying

Norwegian Cruise Line‘s next cruise ship – the Norwegian Escape – has begun its construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. The line and yard celebrated the start of building with the cruise ship’s keel laying. The new vessel will be the largest ever for the cruise line at 164,600 gross tons and with a capacity of 4,200 passengers.

Norwegian Escape will be our largest and most innovative ship to date, building on the phenomenal success of Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway,” said Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian Cruise Line’s chief executive officer, who was present to place the ceremonial coin (pictured above) ahead of the keel. “We are looking forward to seeing this ship take shape over the next year and welcoming her to our fleet in October 2015.”

The new ship will take just 19 months to build and will embark on seven-day cruises to the Eastern Caribbean from Miami year-round beginning on November 14, 2015. For more information on the Norwegian Escape, visit Norwegian Cruise Line‘s website here.
