Name Norwegian Cruise Line’s Breakaway Plus Ships and Win

Norwegian Cruise Line‘s new Norwegian Breakaway continues to delight passengers, the upcoming Norwegian Getaway is nearer to her January 2014 launch (as you can see in the photos below) and two future Breakaway Plus-class ships (rendered above) are in need of names. In fact, the cruise line has just announced a Facebook voting contest – “Norwegians Name Their Ships” – to determine what they will be called.

Now through September 24, 2013, Norwegian’s Facebook fans from the United States, Canada (excluding Quebec), Spain, Germany and the United Kingdom are invited to choose their two favorite ship names from a list of 10 contenders. By participating, fans are entered to win a trip for two on the first Breakaway Plus ship’s inaugural festivities with two round-trip air tickets, ground transportation, balcony stateroom accommodations (double occupancy), and on-board meals all included. Plus, each region will have a winner.

Fans, 18 years of age and older, can cast their vote once per day at the Facebook page corresponding to their region – US and Canada residents can vote by clicking here. Norwegian Cruise Line will then name each ship according to the two highest-ranking selections. The first Breakaway Plus ship will launch in 2015 with the second to follow in 2017. The ships’ design will be based on the current Norwegian Breakaway but will be larger at 163,000 gross tons, making the 4,200-passenger ships the largest in the Norwegian fleet.

The 10 names that are available for your voting consideration are as follows: Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian Discovery, Norwegian Dreamaway, Norwegian Escape, Norwegian Journey, Norwegian Muse, Norwegian Passion, Norwegian Sailaway, Norwegian Treasure and Norwegian Triton. Two of those follow the current “-away” scheme, but apparently Norwegian Attaway, Norwegian Bataway and Norwegian Thataway – selections apparently suggested with tongue in cheek by Norwegian’s chief executive officer, Kevin Sheehan, as reported by John Honeywell – didn’t quite make the cut.

Seriously, Sheehan had this to say: “We have the most passionate and engaged fans. We know that nothing makes our community more excited than the anticipation of our new ship launches and these two are our largest and most innovative ships ever. It’s so important to us to involve our community of Norwegians in this exciting process. We have listed name options that speak to the character of our brand and allude to the uniqueness of Freestyle Cruising®.”

So, now the question is how will you vote. To select your two favorites daily, visit Norwegian Cruise Line‘s Facebook page here, and for more information on the upcoming Norwegian Getaway, visit the line’s dedicated website here. In the meantime, please feel free to share your favorite ship names with us in the comments section below…
