MSC Cruises has just begun construction on the newly named and detailed MSC Meraviglia, the first of the line’s new Vista-class ships (its pool deck rendered above). The ship’s initial steel cutting ceremony took place at the STX France shipyard ahead of her service from three Mediterranean homeports – Genoa, Marseille and Barcelona – beginning in May 2017.
The 4,500-guest, 167,000-ton MSC Meraviglia will feature “cluster cabins,” perfect for families; an expanded MSC Yacht Club ship-within-a-ship experience, complete with duplex suites; amusement park; aqua park; and a three-deck interior promenade crowned with a 5,167 square foot LED screen covering its ceiling. This “digital sky” will display special images throughout the day including scheduled “visual events.”
Technologically, the new cruise ship will utilize Near Field Communication, allowing guests to make purchases, access their staterooms, and geo-locate their children by utilizing their cruise card, bracelet or smartphone.

MSC Meraviglia is the first of four possible Vista-class ships, the second of which is scheduled to launch in 2019 behind Meraviglia in May 2017.
