Cunard Line Plans 2016 Queen Mary 2 Refurbishment

Cunard Line is currently celebrating its 175th anniversary and with it comes the news that it will refurbish its Queen Mary 2 ocean liner next summer. Scheduled to take 25 days at the Blohm+Voss Shipyard in Hamburg, Germany from May 27-June 21, 2016, the dry-dock process will add and enhance shipboard features including accommodation improvements.

Richard Meadows, president, Cunard North America, said “Queen Mary 2 is an icon in the world of luxury ocean travel. A ship that turns heads everywhere she goes, she is the pride of the Cunard fleet and we are committed to ensuring her reputation grows ever stronger.”

Following extensive research by Cunard, Queen Mary 2 will receive 15 Single Staterooms to better accommodate multi-generational and solo travelers alike. Also, 30 additional Britannia Club Staterooms will be allocated and the Britannia Club restaurant will be expanded to cater to those seeking balcony cabins and more flexible anytime dining options.

Additionally, Queen Mary 2‘s kennel facility will be increased in size to facilitate 22 total dogs and cats, 10 more than are currently available. Plus, a lamp post and fire hydrant will be installed on the pet walking deck, as were originally featured on the former QE2, making the animals feel more at home.

The new accommodations are on sale now for late June 2016 sailings, and additional refurbishment details will be announced in the months ahead.
