Ahead of Queen Mary 2‘s upcoming 25-day refurbishment starting in May 2016, Cunard Line has revealed further details including the selected interior design firm of SMC Design. It was previously announced that the liner will receive 15 new single cabins, 30 more Britannia Club cabins and an expanded kennel facility.
The focus of new Queen Mary 2 designs will be an updated art deco aesthetic inspired by the line’s past and particularly the original Queen Mary. Traditional bold Cunard colors will be newly blended with existing neutral tones, and additional upgrades will include new carpets, new furniture and extra decorative fixtures and fittings.
“Cunard has a unique rich heritage in both the nautical and design fields and we have researched into these and looked to incorporate aspects of pattern and design into our plans,” said Andrew Collier, SMC Managing Director. Cunard guests have also contributed to the design process as different concepts have been tested with loyal and future passengers over the last 18 months.
“Queen Mary 2 is the pride of the Cunard fleet. With SMC’s proven maritime design expertise, invaluable input from thousands of Cunard’s discerning, international guests, and 175 years of history as our foundation, we look forward to even more exciting design innovations on the already legendary Queen Mary 2,” said Richard Meadows, president, Cunard North America.
