Crystal Cruises’ Parent Company Set to Acquire Lloyd Werft Shipyard

Crystal Cruises continues its massive expansion plans with yet another remarkable announcement. The luxury line’s new parent company, Genting Hong Kong, will acquire Lloyd Werft, the German shipyard set to build the line’s next Crystal Exclusive Class cruise ships, first launching in late 2018. This comes on the heels of additional news that Crystal will also launch three new brands: Crystal Yacht Cruises in December 2015, Crystal River Cruises in 2017 and Crystal Luxury Air also in 2017.

Global cruise and resort company Genting Hong Kong has entered into a deal that will invest 17.5 million (EURO) for 70% of the new shipbuilding business in Bremerhaven, Germany and 50% ownership of the yard’s land. Lloyd Werft will build three of the new polar-class ocean vessels for Crystal Cruises featuring Crystal Residences, 48 yacht-like private homes. The yard will also build Crystal’s forthcoming river yachts.

“Lloyd Werft has built and lengthened six of the ships owned by an affiliate of the company and has the expertise to build a series of world class cruise ships for the company, which will include the ‘Exclusive Class’ vessels for Crystal Cruises, the world’s most awarded luxury cruise line,” said Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Genting Hong Kong. “Ownership in Lloyd Werft will enable Genting Hong Kong to leverage on the shipyard’s technical expertise and their well-established and long track record in the shipbuilding industry.”
