Crystal Cruises Completes Crystal Serenity Makeover

Crystal Cruises recently completed its extensive $17 million redesign of the Crystal Serenity, and the vessel now touts a number of firsts-at-sea including 70 new hypoallergenic staterooms and a chef’s herb garden integrated into a new “living wall.” The most dramatic changes were made to several dining venues and penthouse suites while a complete set of maintenance was performed from the ship’s keel to her top decks. The massive scale of the project is expertly illustrated in a great documentary video embedded below.

The lido deck was essentially stripped to its bare structure, including the removal of the ship’s indoor pool, before receiving its updates. Now the deck sports a new “California Riviera” decor, and the Lido Cafe more closely resembles that on the Crystal Symphony with food islands in lieu of buffet counters. The new layout features more tables for two and an open kitchen and bakery. The cafe opens up into a new courtyard space filled with several “living walls” with succulent plants growing on the surface (pictured in the header above).

The courtyard also features an updated Trident Grill and Scoops ice cream bar on the port side. The starboard side is now home to the Tastes restaurant and bar for casual al fresco dining in partnership with Sapphire Restaurants in Laguna Beach, CA.  The new international menu includes sharable dishes such as Tunisian Crab Warka and California Street Tacos. Finishing off the lido deck is a brand new cherry wood dance floor for Palm Court.

The four highest tier suites – the Crystal Penthouses – were completely overhauled with a new decor and layout. The new look is inspired by “the classic flats of London” and “upscale style of Manhattan” and creates a very open space that brings more light and views in. To accommodate, the dining area was positioned closer to the windows and veranda. The previous dining room now works as a multipurpose living room with a sofa sleeper. The powder room received the addition of a shower for the aforementioned space to act as a second bedroom. The master bedroom was also upgraded with two entrances and a seating area, and the bathroom features a dual vanity, spacious glass shower, spa flotation tub, and TV in the mirror.
