Following its successful Carnival Vista and upcoming Carnival Horizon, Carnival Cruise Line has started to build a third as-yet-unnamed sister-ship. The next 133,500-ton Vista-class ship celebrated its steel cutting recently at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Italy.
The Carnival Vista originally launched in May 2016, and the next Carnival Horizon—also under construction at the Marghera yard—will set sail on April 2, 2018 in Europe. The 3,934-guest Vista 3 will later debut in 2019.
The ships mark the biggest ever built for the Carnival Cruise Line brand.
Further information is expected in the coming months as to where the ship will be homeported and deployed. Also anticipated are additional design details. In the meantime, a slideshow of photos shows the steel cutting festivities below.
This particular vessel was originally slated to join the P&O Cruises Australia fleet but was later repurposed for Carnival.
Beyond the first trio of ships, Carnival also plans to build another two Vista-class ships for the Chinese cruise market in partnership with the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). The pair will be built in China, and the first is set to come online in 2022.
