Carnival Corporation Orders Nine New Ships for Its Fleet and Multiple Brands

Carnival Corporation has just placed an unprecedented order for nine new cruise ships to be constructed by Fincantieri and Meyer Werft and delivered between 2019 and 2022. Five of the vessels will be built at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone and Marghera Italian shipyards, and four will be built at Meyer Werft’s yards in Papenburg, Germany and Turku, Finland.

Representing the company’s latest and most efficient cruise ship design, these new vessels are in addition to nine new-builds – P&O Cruises’ Brittania and AIDA Cruises’ AIDAprima included in 2015 – already scheduled through 2018 launch. Additionally, the existing fleet will simultaneously continue to be enhanced.

“We’re excited to take this next step in our fleet enhancement plan with these two new agreements that are consistent with our long-term strategy of measured capacity growth over time,” said Arnold Donald, president and CEO of Carnival Corporation. “Our goal as a company is to exceed the expectations of every guest on every ship every day, and these new ships will further enable us to do just that. These will be the most efficient ships we have ever built and the great guest experience will create even more excitement around cruising – helping new cruisers realize the superior vacation experience and value that cruising offers versus land-based vacations.”

Details of the new design and which of Carnival Corp’s nine brands will receive the nine ships between 2019 and 2022 will be revealed in the future. It is known that the vessels are expected to cater to North American, European, and Chinese markets, and each will be customized for its specific market and cruise line. Additional ship orders are also being considered.
