Princess Cruises recently announced a new initiative to update all of its bedding in guest cabins fleet-wide through 2018, so we thought we’d take a look at the specialty sleep linens that are available across various cruise brands.
Carnival Cruise Line
Not only can you enjoy the Carnival Comfort bed onboard, it’s also one you can purchase for your own home. This set of custom pillows, duvet and cover, pillowcases and even the mattress are made in Europe exclusively for Carnival.
The mattress is an 8-inch spring variety, and the duvet is made completely from hypoallergenic down. And for those who happen to be allergic to down or feathers, there is an alternative blend of polyester and cotton available.
Otherwise, the sheets consist of a high-quality cotton blend, the duvet covers and pillowcases are ring-spun and satin-striped cotton and the pillows themselves are manufactured with down-like non-allergenic microfibers.
Celebrity Cruises
Celebrity Cruises is touting its eXhale bedding experience from Reverie on select ships in its “modern luxury” fleet with the Reverie Dream Sleep System specifically on the line’s newest Celebrity Reflection and its Sky Suite categories and above.
The system uses iPad technology to use your own iOS device or provided tablet to customize mattress settings such as firmness, elevation and massage features with the Reverie Remote app and butler assistance. There is even a “zero gravity” setting that raises one’s feet and head slightly to aid circulation, relieve back pressure and simulate a feeling of weightlessness.
Reverie Dream and Reverie Dream Lite mattresses are additionally featured onboard Celebrity’s four Millennium-class ships – the Celebrity Millennium, Celebrity Infinity, Celebrity Summit and Celebrity Constellation.
Crystal Cruises
For a full hypoallergenic accommodation experience, Crystal Cruises features an entire cabin category – the Deluxe PURE Stateroom for breathing easy with a clean air-handling unit, air-purification system, high ozone shock treatment, bacterial-repellant barriers, antimicrobial disinfectant and specially cleaned surfaces.
On the bedding side, microfiber, mono-filament mattress and pillow encasements provide an added layer of allergen protection.
Holland America Line
The Mariner’s Dream bed can be enjoyed in suites onboard Holland America Line as well as in home with an available purchase. Its claim to fame is shrink-resistant fibers to reduce body impressions and maximize its life and pre-compressed foams, all made by the Sherwood Bedding Group.
Furthermore, the green mattress features a 660 LFK innerspring that is firmer than foam-encased coils, and fabrics utilize superior woven knits and are flame-retardant. For the home, the bed comes with an impressive 10-year warranty.
Princess Cruises
There was a time when Princess’ beds were some of the most unremarkable, but they have been improving in recent years. Developed in partnership with board-certified sleep expert Dr. Michael Breus and HGTV designer Candice Olson, its Princess Luxury Bed is now set to raise the bar even higher.
The premium bedding, first launching on Ruby Princess, Emerald Princess and Coral Princess in February, consists of a two-inch pillow top and nine-inch single-sided medium-firm mattress with individually-wrapped coils and full foam encasing. Pocketed spring construction ensures less disturbance from one’s sleeping partner, and the whole ensemble is enshrouded with European-style duvets and Jacquard-woven cotton linens.
Plus, a SLEEP by Princess Kit is offered complete with eye shades, earplugs, aromatherapy scents, breathing nose strips and more.
Royal Caribbean International
Royal Caribbean International also makes its Royal Caribbean Bedding Collection available to buy and enjoy at home. Its signature mattresses, hotel-style bedding, pillows and Italian linens, towels and spa robes are all for sale. You can also purchase royal bath products and home accessories.
Silversea Cruises
From personal experience, my all-time favorite cruise bedding is aboard Silversea Cruises. It’s easily the softest and most plush of the bunch, and there are a wide variety of choices to select your preferred bedding types on the spot. Custom made Pratesi bed linens contribute to the comfort with 240 thread count Egyptian cotton satin sheets, pillowcases and down duvet covers.
Mattresses feature memory pillow tops and dual sides that can be flipped for either soft or firm support, and a pillow menu offers nine options from soft down to memory foam. And pillow covers are chamomile or lavender aromatherapy scented.
