This morning, Royal Caribbean International announced the official name and initial construction of its Project Sunshine vessel – Quantum of the Seas. While no features have yet been detailed, this new Quantum-class cruise ship will “be such a leap forward in terms of vessel design and guest experiences” according to Adam Goldstein, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International.

An exciting video showcasing the first steel cutting for the vessel at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany was released by the cruise line today as well. Quantum of the Seas will launch in the fall of 2014 followed by a sister ship named Anthem of the Seas in the spring of 2015.

“Throughout our history we have made huge strides in cruise ship design and innovation and the Quantum class will be no exception,” said Richard D. Fain, Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd. “We look forward to introducing consumers to Quantum cruising.”
