Exciting news today for anyone who’s had a river cruise along Egypt’s Nile River on their bucket list. Viking River Cruises announced today that it intends to resume Nile river cruising, and that it has acquired an existing vessel and stripped it completely down to the steel in order to undergo a renovation that will bring it in-line with Viking’s trendsetting Viking Longships.

Rebuilt from the ground up, the all-new, all-suite Viking Ra will enter service on the Nile River for Viking River Cruises in early 2018. Rendering courtesy of Viking River Cruises.

Known as Viking Ra, the all-suite, 48-guest ship will feature Scandinavian décor enriched with classical Egyptian motifs for a vessel that is uniquely Viking, but which still reflects the rich history of the area in which she will sail. Guests will be able to sail aboard her for an eight-day roundtrip cruise on the Nile River as part of Viking’s 12-day Pharaohs & Pyramids cruise tour that begins in Cairo.
