Today, Norwegian Cruise Line announced the order of two additional “Breakaway Plus” ships with Meyer Werft, scheduled for delivery in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

The two new ships build on the current order of two previously ordered Breakaway Plus ships, the Norwegian Escape and Norwegian Bliss, slated for delivery in 2015 and 2017. The new class of ships feature an additional deck over the Norwegian Breakaway and Getaway, registering at approximately 163,000 GRT and carrying around 4,200 guests.

The Breakaway Class ships feature a number of innovative amenities and features for the line, including an outdoor wrap-around promenade, featuring a number of bars and restaurants. The ships also feature an expansive waterpark, outdoor adventure park, among a number of speciality restaurants throughout the ships.

“Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway have proven themselves as industry game-changers and are extremely popular with our guests,” said Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian Cruise Line’s chief executive officer. “It was only natural that we build on their success with this new ship order that further solidifies our long-term growth strategy.”

“We are thrilled that Norwegian Cruise Line has the continued confidence in Meyer Werft to expand their fleet,” said Bernard Meyer, managing partner of Meyer Werft.  “We are very proud of our longstanding relationship with Norwegian.”

The new ship order with Meyer Werft carries a price tag of approximately $2.2 billion and will expand Norwegian’s current 13 ship fleet into a 17 ship fleet by final delivery in 2019.
