The newest vessel for P&O Cruises, the Britannia, is adorned with (what else?) the world’s largest contemporary version of the Union Jack.
The ship’s new livery was completed last week at the Fincantieri shipyard in Malfalcone, Italy.
The 141,000 ton ship also touched water for the first time to commence its next phase in construction — fitting out all the interior spaces. (It’ll be completed by March 2015.)
The United Kingdom’s flag isn’t the only artwork on the new ship. It’ll have Britain’s largest floating art collection, containing more than 8,000 artworks: pieces ranging from paintings and bronze sculptures to ceramics and paper wall reliefs have been created by a wide variety of artists – most of them British – with some from as far afield as Japan, Australia and South Africa.
